CAMDEN - Do prominent public figures share common childhood experiences? Can parents help foster great potential in their children? The early education and upbringing of hundreds of notable personalities, such as Pablo Picasso, Alfred Hitchcock and Marie Curie, will be discussed during a free lecture at the Barnes & Noble in Marlton.

At 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March. 3, Rutgers University-Camden sociology professor Ted Goertzel will discuss his latest book, "Cradles of Eminence, Second Edition." His parents, acclaimed authors Victor and Mildred George Goertzel wrote the original in 1962. Nearly all the childhood biographies examined showed that one or both parents embraced a love of active learning; literature was read frequently to the children; and politics was discussed at the family dinner table.

The Rutgers-Camden scholar has updated the text to include the childhoods of 21st century icons like Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jordan, and Hillary Clinton. The book also studies how current education practices are impacting the development of the next generation's leaders.

Barnes & Noble is located at 200 West Route 70 in Marlton.

This lecture is part of Cappuccino Academy, a monthly series of free public lectures delivered by Rutgers-Camden professors at Barnes & Noble.
