Research Interests: Impact of drug court on parenting and child wellbeing

Drew Humphries, Professor of Sociology (B.A.; M., D. Criminology, University of California at Berkeley) and Director of the graduate and undergraduate programs in Criminal Justice, teaches a variety of criminal justice courses: police, deviance, gender and crime, domestic violence, and drugs and society. She has published extensively in the areas of crime, social control, media, women, and drugs. Dr. Humphries is the author of Crack Mothers: Drugs, Pregnancy and the Media and co-editor of Women, Violence, and the Media, a special issue of Violence Against Women. She is currently editing a volume of articles, Women, Violence, and the Media for Ohio University State Press. On the basis of her projects, the National Association for Pregnant Women invited Dr. Humphries as a featured speaker at its January 2002 conference at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York.
Dr. Humphries just completed a pilot study on the impact of drug court on parenting and child wellbeing. This CCCS supported study encountered difficulties recruiting subjects. New approaches in recruitment are needed.

>>> The American Society of Criminology, Division on Women and Crime, named Drew Humphries the Distinguished Scholar of the Year.

>>> Dr. Drew Humphries was featured in the March 2004 edition of SJ Magazine
