Research Interests: Relationship between victimization and crime; intergenerational transmission of violence; impact of incarceration on children; family factors in crime and delinquency; prisoner re-entry

"What the best and wisest parent wants for his own child, that must the community want for all of its children."
.....................John Dewey

Jane A. Siegel, Associate Professor (B.A. Drew University, Ph.D. University of Pennsylvania) teaches a variety of CJ courses at Rutgers-Camden, including "Children and the Justice System," "Criminal Justice in America," "Varieties of Crime," "Confinement and Corrections," "Juvenile Justice" and "White-Collar Crime." Dr. Jane Siegel's research questions often address the effects of childhoood victimization in adult life and violence against women. Her current research project, “The Impact of Parental Incarceration on Children,” is a qualitative study of the children of women incarcerated or on probation in Philadelphia and New Jersey. Previous projects included a longitudinal study on "Adult Memories and Consequences of Child Abuse" and "Juvenile and Adult Offending Behavior and Other Outcomes in a Cohort of Sexually Abused Boys: 20 Years Later" (with Linda Meyer Williams).

Dr. Siegel is also a co-investigator on a project examining the re-entry process for a group of ex-prisoners in the La Bodega de la Familia program in New York City. The research will include an examination of the ways children are affected by their parent's return from prison and the role children play in the returning parent's re-entry process.

She has also administered a criminal justice exchange program with the University of Tuebingen, Germany -- and in her spare time she plays powerful scrabble games.
